Started series of files for instructions for stuff done with plastic bags yarn. Realized ww'd probably have lots of these over time, and e'd want to put up images participants send us. So I added a couple of zeros to the file numbers and changed the images of NY Times, LA Times, and Wall Street Journal plastic covers to fit this newer system. Since we have a website on which to display participants' work, I think we should do so. Local communities can use the praise. These numbers let us go up to 9, 999. I sure hope we don't have any more images than that. jeanne
pinkimaginary0001.jpgImage of doll as one of first class projects. I've got a back view, and much too large, but no time to fix now. jeanne

Updated files. jeanne
Sample gallery image of a free form piece with a southwest theme. With a suggestion for a note card.
Image of the strawberry sundae free form, unfinished.
Free form crochet image with southwest theme. I'm still giving some of these things dual file names because I haven't yet been able to discern the most efficient filing system. For now, it's keeping cats in front of file name, but that may prove to be a little clumsy as the site develops. On the other hand, if there are many different groups like cats, like cats who knit knts in front), cats who make cards (crds in front), cats who make jewelry (jwls in front), cats who make lace (lace in front), cats who . . ., etc. it may be the most efficient way. Or we could establish a new URL, a new website, and the different front names could be different directories, as long as they can effectively share images. Which is the problem that led me to all these naming configurations. jeanne
Same southwest image marked in Paint to outline parts of piece that led to my conclusion that it could be a southwest theme. jeanne

Thought I did a separate catsiteindxaj.htm, but I can't find it. I did. Found it, but lost it again. Oy! Susan, getting the site up to standard is gonna take a little while. Yikes! It's gonna take a lotta while. jeanne
Sample gallery image of a free form piece in progress. With a suggestion for a note card.
Image of the strawberry sundae free form, unfinished.
Drawing of planned finish of strabery sundae free form. Could be used for a note card, or you could wait till I finish it. jeanne
Thought I did a separate catsiteindxaj.htm, but I can't find it. So I'll leave that for next week. Too much to write this week, but I am updating the catsiteadd.htm. jeanne

Happy Spring, Happy Easter, Happy Passover, Happy Spring Break to all of you everywhere. jeanne and Susan
First page of a crochet along for the simple free form necklace. Shortened name. jeanne
Added images to show use of plastic bags as yarn. jeanne
A sample gallery page to show a free form piece in the shape of an abstract heart that could be a small necklace, a key chain, decoration on a special card, a special book mark, a patch on a sweater, a jacket, or jeans. jeanne
Records of Cats who Crochet files I've added to or changed. jeanne
Full size image so you can see stitches up close. When I use these images on the website, I use smaller images. To see the larger one, if it's on the website, click on the jpg or gif image alone, as it is here. I'll teach you how to do this when we start to meet. jeanne
Cropped image of the chain and its attachment to the free form piece. The chains are hard to count here because the yarn I used is one that varies from thick to thin. Sorry. I was hunting for a color that matched, and wasn't thinking about your needing to count the chains. jeanne
Cats instruction image on the NY Times Sunday plastic cover. Blue
Cats instruction image on the LA Times Sunday plastic cover and the Wall Street Journal Sunday plastic cover. Orange. The weekday covers are clear plastic. That could be fun, too, if you used colored yarn with it. jeanne
Fabric image of black and white envelope-style purse with shoulder strap. Made of multi-colored plastic and fun yarn in black with white paper-like strips. I think this one is done in crochet. It would have been a mess to ry knitting all those strips and that black fun fur. Whenever you have long pieces like that jutting from the yarn, they get caught up and pulled through the knit stitches. Then you have to work them free, if you'd like them to look like this fabric. This purse has a really neat fabric for lining.
I can't find any of my cameras. They're obviously packed away under something, and I don't have time to go looking. When I do, I'll take a photo of the purse so you can see it. You'll have to nag me. There's so much to do with re-rganizing these sites. jeanne
Image of inside of purse, with lining. The little bits of color you see is the plastic crochet under all the furry stuff sticking out. You can see why you might want to knit that combination. Crocheting it is easier. (I actually don't have the lining stitched in yet. There really is a lot to do with these websites. By the time I find the cameras, I'll get the lining stitched in. Honest. jeanne
Story of a young woman with cystic fibrosis. Relates to our teaching of empathy, non-bullying, and finding the best in each of us for collaboration. Older participants, interested in gathering more information on what we talk about that really matters will find this file in the Dear Habermas site index, as well as in the cats who crochet site index.

Maybe someone will have the courage to wear one of these hair thingamajigs. Or maybe someone could wear it to a costume party. I'll bet Reese Witherspoon would. jeanne
Gallery image for Hair Thingamajig or Whatever Have You? jeanne
Image for sample gallery pages and instruction pages of a free form piece in the shape of an abstract heart that could be a small necklace, a key chain, decoration on a special card, a special book mark, a patch on a sweater, a jacket, or jeans.
Expanded template instructions for crawlers to pick up the page. jeanne
Instructions sheet for totes made from plastic bags.
Video by Jisoo Kim, who did animation of Thimbe's Diary on Facing an HIV positive diagnosis. Struggling to get the file names shorter. jeanne

Instructions sheet for Running Butterfly.
Copy lost free form page, which might have lost image on it. Copy of what I retrieved from I'm not even sure where. Duh! jeanne
Lost free form image. Image of sculpture when I added 4 or 5 pop tops. I'll set up new titles as soon as I get the templates up. jeanne
Lost free form page. At one point I thought this was lost, too. Copy of what I thought I lost. Have no idea how this all happened. jeanne

New page of instructions on simple free form necklace. I'm still adding to it. jeanne

Template for cat instruction pages.

Haven't cleaned this one up yet. Later. jeanne
First explanation piece on a free form piece in progress, with images. The free form sculpture piece is Recuerda, Memento. jeanne
Moved Magen David six-point star to cats site, as it's a free form of five-point irish crochet star. Still has old Dear habermas issue stuff, needs to be reformatted and for a new pattern to be written. jeanne
Continuing to play with layout and links. jeanne

Plan to make this one catscurrissue.htm, but haven't done it yet. jeanne
ily for cats who crochet. Designed to teach how I use a signature icon in the doily, and how color and hook size can affect the result.. jeanne
Couldn't get to this yet, and used Allan Knox's granddaughter instead, for now. jeanne

Still trying to get proper links and layout. Updated.
Starting instruction page; Finished two more bracelets. Have to tack "jewel" onto the first one, and have to put together a large freeform flower. And I have to figure out how to break these into reasonable consistency over sample gallery, over images to inspire gallery, and over instructions section. jeanne
Cats sources (at this time mostly for adults, though I hope to do this for kids, too. See catstheory.htm on that.) I'm taking the unfiled source section from former Dear Habermas teaching essays, and checking the URLs to make sure they're still valid. Lot's aren't. And that's one of the biggest weaknesses of the Web, so far. jeanne
Discovered today that I use this file both for Cats and for Dear Habermas. That won't do. I'll have to come up with another filename. Probably will be catscurrissue.htm or something like that. jeanne

Tentative Home page, introducing Damian. File name changed now to catsdefault.htm. That's because I'll have to change it to default.htm for earthlink to accept it as home page. Duh! jeanne
Gave Damian his new homepage. For now, this is where Cats who Crochet will have it's home, from within Dear Habermas, because they're closely related. jeanne
These two index files (aj and kz) will take you automatically to the right file when you select and link on one of the letters of the alphabet at the top of the file. jeanne

Notes for theoretical papers on Cats who Crochet community development. We've received an "invitation to submit," which would help take the community development project right across the country. These notes will be for those of us who are interested in establishing cats who crochet kinds of groups (kinds meaning not all cats will crochet; some will knit, make things out of cardboard or paper, make things with hardware, use soldering irons, whatever their skills and interests represent. jeanne

Updated.
Starting instruction page, but still have lots to do on it. jeanne
This file is the source file for conversations on governance. That's a big issue these days. I've given a few examples of the kinds of questions we'll ask and will put up online info on as many perspectives as we can find. That's what we need to talk about these important things. jeanne
Put up a Frank Rich article "Memorial Day at South Pacific", with commentary by jeanne. Speaks of war as different cohorts remember it, and of the use of public space - as it relates to governance, which is the way we talk about and influence how we ourselves are governed. From the New York Times in May 2008.
Put up an article in which Ari tries to turn traffic islands into public spaces. more on this soon. jeanne

Sample freeform doily or coaster or patch, created with all single crochet and slip stitch. Notice that the circle is not completely round. That's freeform. You can correct such oddities or simply include them as part of your abstract composition. jeanne
Notice that the circle oddity is now drawn in. You could us a different color and make the circle rounder. Or you could use the same colors, as I did. Or you could choose not to make it rounder. That's freeform. jeanne
Updated.
Samples I've made for freeform crochet and knitting. Most have no specific pattern. Even I can't reproduce them exactly, because if something didn't turn out as I wanted, I just responded to the piece and went with what it wanted to turn out like. Maked knitting and crocheting, and embroidery and quilting, and journaling and drawing lots more fun because you don't have to worry about making mistakes. There are no mistakes. Just different "recuerdos" (memories).

Old teaching file on the complex diversity that has become a major issue in 2011. jeanne.
Image for instructions on simplest bracelet. Not so sure it's the simplest. Named it before I crocheted it. jeanne
Button isn't attached to either bracelet or pop top in this image either. More images and instructions later. jeanne
Changed the title to "catsiteadd.htm" with cats in front because then all the files will fall together when you're looking for them. This is the kind of thing that's going to take some work on consistency. Cats usually stands for the site, determining file placement in our index. Second piece eliminates an "s" if it would be a repeat - thus, catsite, and not catssite. gal stands for gallery, im for image, indxaj and indxkz for the two indexfiles, str dl or sd for string doll, followed by the number of the file, pattern, image, whatever. I use the 000x because that let's us go up to 9,999 of whatever. We learned with Dear Habermas, that, especially when we use a forum for sharing, we really do go that hight. Updated.
String doll with pop top head turned sideways and different sized and type of eyes, and clotherd. Body parts are the same but differently used. Fixed entry on catsiteadd.htm.
jeanne's first drawing of planned simple version of crocheted bracelet.

Rose-colored string doll in Knit Picks cotton with a pop top for head with mixed length curls or dreadlocks, as you wish, a pop top for torso, and one piece arms and two legs. I didn't mean to leave the hair rose-colored; I just forget between crocheting these things and then writing up the manual to go with them.

Using cats0001.htm for template. This message concerns primarily Susan, who may need a template. jeanne
First page on sources. Had to get it up in a hurry because Marion in Jewels sent an e-mail that included knitted beaded bracelets that would make wonderful "recuerdos" or tiny memory gifts or memory savings. Again, the file at this point is mostly for Susan. I'll have lots more up on it soon. jeanne

Got up more on Damian, and finally got into "the imaginary," which is the centerpiece of recognizing the importance of interpretation by both artist and viewer in making meaning.
First of gallery images of past and present projects.
Magic number image. great colors. Could be real fun to work with. And this is what Congress looks like today. Numbers only make sense when we use our heads. Page nowhere near finished. It actually should go the gallery section as a former product. jeanne
2001 file for theory paper, pulled from archives on collaborative imaginary. Peter Aguilar added 2 pages that will need to go up here:'http://www.csudh.edu/dearhabermas/nkdspf0402.htm". Actually, I think I mixed this up with cats0001gal.htm and no time to figure it out tonight. jeanne

Another version of I, Shaman, needs to be coordinated with cats0001b.htm
Different version of Introduction to Cats who Crochet. Needs to be coordinated with later version. jeanne

jeanne's faked picture of Damian knitting. Story to be written. Soon. jeanne
No, of course it's not real. I never even imagined that Damian would knit like this. But never fear. He's a cat. He'll know how to join our imaginary as a cat.

Main page for Cats who Crochet website.XXX I didn't get to writing this, Susan, so it really is that first image of jeanne and her cats. That's on one of the cats0001im.htm files now, maybe 0001, 0002, or 0003. I got a little confused with so many files out. Faye, you're welcome to look, but it's longish and the description is still unfinished. jeanne
