Essay and Explanation of concepts.

Discussion Questions

  1. Americans have long said that we should never discuss religion and politics. Isn't that unusual for a country that many consider Christian?

Consider many of the recent books out on changes in the media-presented outlook on religion since the Reagan presidency.

  2. What shape does our conception of authority generally take?

Conider the organizational chart and tournament mobility. We usually conceive of authority as hierarchy.

  3. What, then, might be the problem as we authority meets equality?

Consider that hierarchical patterns are just that, hierarchical. With higher levels having more status and pwer in decion-making than lower levels. If you have higher decision-making power and status than I do, in what ways are we equal? Will that difference of power and status affect any of our basic issues of equality? In what ways? Do we want equality to be thus affected?
