Colin Mutchler asked to use this digital painting in his performance. When he asked, he told me about Creative Commons, which is a means of copyrighting without preventing use by others. So I copyrighted our site with them. Meanwhile, Colin wrote and told me about the performance and the lines he used with the painting. How wonderful that we are creating infrastructure that let's us share like this. Perhaps he can share more of his work in our exhibit in May.From Colin Mutchler:
I performed the piece that uses your image tonight for the first time. it went well. the lines when I used your image for is:"things seem to be breaking down
church boy confessions and corporate transgressions
'men of peace' using soldiers and weapons
yes, this is the time of break down, break through
forgiveness, and begin again,
truth and reconciliation"Colin Mutchler http://colinmutchler.com/freeculture/
I painted that when I was remembering my own experience as a young child with a church-related indiscretion. Though I wouldn't have called it "rape," for lack of violence, rape specialists do. I think I caught some of that terror in the nude. There's another nude, same image, nearby, reaching out, one of the multiple selves we call on to help us get through such insance upheaval and trauma. But I had another image in mind, too: Kirchner's woodcut, Moerder. I never thought till now that I was imaging a murder scene while painting. I didn't feel anger, not consciously. But I don't suppose I was ready to forgive such transgression. Colin is right: time for truth and reconciliation. I went to Church on Sunday.
