Box/Cards and Waterfall Cards Can Remind Someone ofI received an e-mail update today from The Body Pro, the HIV/AIDs Resource for Health Care Professionals. They highlighted a new site for professionals that offers images for educational purposes. "I should take a look at that," I thought, "because we need to do a lot of educational work on HIV/AIDS in our local service area." Immediately I thought of creating Cards/Boxes that would offer much needed information that people could keep handy for reference.
Good idea. But the site demands considerable medical knowledge, and a good deal of sophistication to deal with some of the images. I didn't run away, although I did consider it. I simply browsed through the offerings, one of which was a list of diseases, amongst which was Human Papilloma Virus. The vaccine for that has recently become available, and I know that some parents are put off by the thought of vaccinating their young children. After looking at some of these images, they may have second thoughts.
I DO NOT recommend you're going to the image site. You need a background in medical study to handle that. But it did lead me to look up the term "Condyloma," which led me to the University of Chicago's "Condyloma Acuminata/Genital Warts/HPV." I thought they offered a good overview. You don't get an image unless you ask to see it by linking to it. How many of us really know what it looks like? I sure didn't.
I don't know exactly how to make the image unavailable unless you want to see it. Maybe a card or box compartment that you'd have to open to get at the image? I'll bet we could manage that. Maybe a two inch box inside a four inch box? with decorations that remind us that love matters? Think on it. jeanne
Discussion Questions
- Could some of you consider the possibility of a box/card that would be useful for sharing this information on Human Papilloma Virus with adults in our local communities?
Consider that images stick with us much longer than words. I may never forget those images. And don't forget to include the new HPV information from TV that says you must have a special HPV test when you have the pap smear. The pap smear alone isn't sufficient to detect HPV. HPV Test More Accurate Than Pap Smear.
