Introduction:

  • I was surprised that the issue of Clinton's romp with Monica Lewinsky ketp coming up for Sawsan and then for others in our field work on governance discourse. So I Asked Jeeves: "How important is Clinton's sexual philandering in the 2004 election?"

Focus:

  • I'd like you to come up with a question like that, one that surprises youk one that you're curious about and would like to know what's out there on it, and do a Web search. I've shared an article from a Bangladesh source. It gives a pretty good review of elections over the last decades. We need to start being aware of what people are thinking and saying about us.

Concepts and Key Words:

  • forgiveness You might want to start thinking about sins and forgiveness, and maybe even cheap forgiveness. Why are we more ready to forgive the Enron executives their economic sends than Clinton his moral sins? Are we? How does forgiveness fit into our various moralities?

Discussion Questions:

  1. How does Clinton's philandering compare to Kennedy's?

" Unlike Kennedy’s, Clinton’s sexual exploits became titillating public fodder —the media, especially right-wingers, were less accommodating of presidential peccadilloes in the 1990s than in the sexually liberated 1960s.

"Again, unlike JFK who liked cosmopolitan and glamorous paramours, Clinton was less finicky, partaking of whatever damsel was around and available! The differences in their patrician and plebeian family circumstances and upbringing may explain this divergence in sexual preference."
