I still need to make up templates for the different kinds of pages: Week of, pdf lesson: will be made up of crochet lesson for week and issue for that same week. Issue for conversations that matter. Issue file will start with ctm (conversation that matters). Crochet file will start with nstr. I'll use the 0001.htm numbering and file designation. That gives us room to store lots of issue papers and patterns on this website. Remember, we'll have crochet, knitting, hardware, tool shop building, etc. I'm trying to avoid paying for separate sites for each group. Eventually, I hope we would have separate sites for separate locales. But it might still be a good idea to keep the different groups in the locale on the same website, the better to let everyone try out all the different activities in the locale.the license on tmplissue.htm in the last line links to jeannecurran.htm. NY Times article summary on carcinogens. Report on what we know presently about cell phones and brain cancer. Also FDA announcement that formaldehyde in plywood manufacture. Report held up for 30 years because of industyr lobbying. Also that young people are smoking again. This is a social factor. Identification as a carcinogen is not working. Some things to think about. This would be best for adults. I'll try to find ways to introduce to young people. Fear studies important here. If you scare them to death, they'll just completely avoid the issue. My own personal copy of Krugman's article on the Unwisom of Elites. From May 8, (I think), 2011. You'll also find my commentary on Dear Habermas, as noted above. I know this sounds picky, that I can't make this available to those who want to learn more, and aren't subscribers. We used to have libraries, really we did. We've got to stop blocking access to learning, whenever we're ready for it in our lives. And yes, the NYT and almost all other papers will charge you to read it, if you don't subscribe. I find that most discouraging for the sake of lifetime education in this country. But newspapers, like TV, have been supported by advertising, and not very interesting or creative advertising at that. The ads encourage all the things that have resulted in today's materialistic refusal to face the values we live by, when mere access is becoming more and more costlyalmost day by day. But at the same time, the newspapers, and to a much lesser extent, the blogs of today, support our journalists. We desperately need journalists who can focus on maintaining the integrity and accuracy of the news we are fed. Yes, the passive tense. We ARE fed, because we want it free in a capitalist world where profit is quickly becoming the only true motivation. I will address this issue. Just not today. File on issue of finding a voice for our young people. Kindergarten through 12th grade have ideas and beliefs they are beginning to form. We need to respect those and invite them into civil discourse. This is the story of a high school group who became politically active in their local role for mayor. Given today's insanity with everybody writing whatever they please without adequate accountability, I think we should probably change to considering the Weekly Posting a Newsletter. This job is hard enough; I don't need to add any stress through a title that might suggest grandeur. We never did. But I used to think of Dear Habermas as an online journal. One moment meditation gets you to the same place we're trying to teach people to get to, Susan. I just don't think they've developed theoretically how it fits into healing and growing. That's our job. I did the one minute with his video. It's exactly what I do. Focus on the breath. It's never right or wrong, thus emotional support. Kept working on this image. Would love to have some real art software, but this will have to do for now. Buscaglia is the balance to Habermas' view of governance discourse. Granted I have had little experience of first-rate schools, but I sense that Buscaglia's love and respect for the special education children he specialized in makes all the difference for most of us. My theory is that adding Buscaglia's humanity and love of the Other to Hirschman's sense of evidence-based reasoned argument on issues,, might just get us to the public-sphere governance discourse Habermas and so many of us sought. jeanne- catsrcunfiled01.htm
