Added an article from LA Times on osteopenia - part of our medical alert that we may all be aware and watch over our own health. Also added a Donald Cohen article in the LA Times on how the Chamber of Commerce keeps accusing regulatins of being job killers, when in fact they're not. He's the directory of Cry Wolf Project, which I also added. I shall be eternally grateful to all these professionals who spend time gathering evidence on so much of the law and governance that affects us all. I could never keep up without them. Whatever shall we do when journalism as we know it is gone??? Obviously, I beg you all to read this latest addition to catsrcunfiled.htm . jeanne

Newly created project guide for discussion and conversation on peacekeeping, recognition and rejection of bullying, aggressiveness, I'm smarter, prettier, faster, whatever, than you "sort of pain causing" that makes peacekeeping so hard in today's world. Started to do a secon project guide, this one based on a painting by David Friedman that did a wonderful job of capturing a feeling. I'm gonna try to capture that feeling with a free form. A flag of sorts, or a banner, that might say something that would otherwise take more time than we have or require us to know each other better than we do. I haven't even started the free form, or found a palette, or yarns. Just liked David's Color of Spirit, and his Peace Plan, well enough to try for that kind of effect. I did a shrug like this once, with a picture of our flag, shaken, disunited, dishevelled. For me, it represented the state of our country in the midst of the great financial debacle of 2008. No, I haven't the slightest idea where it is. But I'll find it and take a photograph for you. Maybe I should redo it in a much lighter and softer wool, as a free form sweater. More on this as I work on it. jeanne

Sample Page of Free Form Pieces. I added a couple of the one I did this evening. jeanne
- catsfflacescrf002.jpg
I changed the background color because the pale gray obscured the scarf details a little. It shows up better on the Project Guide page in purple. This link shows the scarf as it was captured by the scanner. The image is large enough that you can see the details of the stitching. Looking carefully at the stitches is a good way to learn what we call "reading the knitting or crochet." When you become familiar with how the stitches look in the fabric you crochet, you will find many more alternative choices in free form. You'll have a sense of which kind of stitch will produce which kind of look. Many times the image in the siteadd list will be this enlarged one. The image on project guide pages has been reduced to fit on the screen so you can see the whole image at once. jeanne
- catsgff0019.jpg
Sample gallery free form image, done evening of May 5, 2011. Used brown tweed, I think, kind of yarn. I wanted dark colors so that boys wouldn't be afraid to adopt any of these. I'll need a whole stash for Halloween of 2011. Will post view of piece with the iconic circle so you can see there is no way was this done as a doily. I chose I was thinking fo adding some embellishment to make it into 3 D, but that's a little advanced. Will add that later. jeanne
- javawork.gif
The icon we've used for years to symoblize "Duh!." jeanne
- jcprj0001htm
Updated to correspond to working file, jcprj0002.htm. Changed background color of icon image (One that starts each page, like the home page on which Damian appears. Sometimes I'll use Damina; sometimes an identifying image, like that of Susan's Someday Scarf. jcprj0002.htm is the current working file. jcprj0001.htm and jcprj0001bk.htm are files that are now linked in work that I could have done anywhere in the past few weeks. So it's easier to bring them up to date with the working file than it is to find all those links and fix them. I don't plan to do that till the non-profit is incorporated and can hire someone to do it. I've got enough on my plate. jeanne
- jcprj0002.htm
Additions to file of Project Guide 1. Mainly, URLs for instructions on the stitches used. And purple background in icon image. These changes have been, I hope, transferred to jcprj0001.htm and jcprj001bk.htm, which were the lkupdated sheets at various times. Eventually I'll try to get them all centralized into jcprj0101.htm, which means Vol.1, Issue 1, for the Project with Faye. That volume and issue will start with Project Guide 1. jeanne
- jcprj0101.htm
Final file for holding Project Guide 1: Volume 1, Issue 1
That 0101 designation may not be the most efficient. Still thinking on that. jeanne
Now I'm going to do some cleanup. I'm going to create an index page of all the files for Cats who Crochet, so we can find the dratted things when we're looking for them. Dear Habermas is a huge site. Susan and I need this index to teach effectively. The rest of you may not, but it's our site, so we get to put up what we need to run it. That's fair, hmmm?
I'm going to name this file jnsindx.htm, which stands for jeanne and susan index of files for the L.A. community project with Faye. Each such project will have a separate index. Of course, this is going to work. Susan and I have been doing this for more than 15 years at CSUDH and UWP. Of course, I'm probably going to feel like road kill before all the parameters are finally worked out. Susan, I'd be willing to cede the job as web mistress. jeanne
- jnsindx.htm
There's no number with this file because it should be updated daily, like siteadd.htm. It'll probably take me several days to get it functional, but I rather desperately need it, so I'll probably be working on it everyday. Notice that that means that if you're printing any of this out, you might want to wait until it's in some stable format. Otherwise, you'll be printing lots of stuff you
won't need. This file, like the siteadd.htm file is best just checked on the computer. The updated file has been started, but it needs a little more time, since there are lots of URLs to check for almost every page, and the files themselves need to work with current links on the site itself. jeanne

Image of free form piece that my cats stole for their own. That's their share of crocheting. They take each piece out to see how it fares as a toy. If they like it, it tends to disappear regularly from my basket. Once they learn that some of the less complicated pieces can be theirs if they choose them, they patiently watch and bat my hook occasionally. They, like all other living creatures, tend to enjoy being an active part of fun activity. This is what led me, together with meeting Steph's cat, Damian, to name this project CATS who CROCHET. The small letter for who, normally used for humans, reminds me that all living creatures, not just humans, like to share in work and play. I rushed to get this image up because Sugar Puss and Sugar Plum really like this one, and I was afraid it might disappear. There's another I'm less willing to lose, that they keep purloining from my basket. Both of these have stiffener on them (non-toxic). When I have the time to get the stiffener out of the garage, I'll make a couple for Damian, too. But Steph will have to do just a little crochet, so he can share the fun of making one. jeanne
- catsgff0018.jpg
Leapin' Louie. Another of the cats' favorites. One of the series from Halloween 2010. Leapin' Louie is the last one left. He's a free form doll. Also makes a great ornament. Project guide for him will take me another few weeks, but it will be out soon. jeanne

Baggie to accompany Project Guide on how to start doing free form, as a means of introducing crochet and conversation that matters. Baggie includes a small sample of crochet with Knitpick's cotton, a crochet hook, and instructions. If I can find inexpensive crochet hooks somewhere, then we could let participants keep the hook for later practice. When we did this with CSUDH, I wished I had had the time to do this. Now, after the inglorious financial meltdown it will be even more important. I don't think it's a good idea to ask anyone to buy materials until they see that they really enjoy crochet. If the project groups start small enough, I'll be able to do this. My classes usually had over 40, and there were always at least 2 classes. Hopefully, we'll have knitting projects, plastic recycle projects, all different kinds of activities, drawing, paper making stuff, hardware for minor construction, etc. The object is to introduce everyone to skills they enjoy nad cna jeanne

Baggie to accompany crochet with plastic covers from newspapers delivered to home. This baggie will include 2 weekday plastic covers, clear; a small bit of yarn to be crocheted with the plastic - gives it more texture and interest, as well as color. Opening page for free form gallery. Developing it to serve as template for other sections, like an inspiration image gallery - Hanna Hedman would fit in that one - but so would many other artists who offer very different styles. We'll have an instruction section - for my telling you how I did my free form, so that you can play with mine, and change your piece just a little at first, until you gain a feel for the free form Im doing. Don't forget that this is just one kind of free form. I'll be sure to give you lots of URLs to other free form sites. jeanne

Free form lace scarf. Note that the file name starts with cats, keeping all the crochet-related files together for our project guide. The ff puts the file into the free form section. The lace puts into the lace section under free form, and the scrf tells us that it's a scarf. I used 001 because this was the first file I put in this subsection, and I'm allowing for 999 free form lace scarves made by all of us who participate inthe crochet project. Sounds good; but with this many files, I'm never sure. I'm going to create an index of files up under cats so that, hopefully, we'll always be able to find what we're looking for. Hah! as though that were going to be easy! jeanne

There are some basic understandings of how we learn that we will want to identify so that they are explained and often used in group activities, and hopefully also communicated to lots of other local communities to which each participant belongs. These will be included in catsiteindxaj.htm and catsiteindxkz.htm, the two files which constitute our index, at least for now. Older participants who wish to go into these concepts more thoroughly will be able to pursue them in the Dear Habermas siteindx files, but I'd prefer not to add that complication for those who don't choose it. I think by the time we have several groups functional across the country, we'll want to create separate websites for the separate groups. We're trying to start conversation that will get people used to the kind of governance or public sphere conversation Habermas always assumed really did exist, even though I think even he must have loss some faith in that if he's watching American politics right now. Postmodernism seems to make itself felt even if you don't want to plunge in and accept that we sure are post-something. Susan, we need some of these groups in the jails and prisons desperately. But I don't think I'll even think about that at this point. jeanne
- cwcpg0001.htm
File name for crochet file set. Crochet Project of Week 1 will be cwcpg0001.htm.
Stands for CATS who CROCHET project guide, volume 1, Number 1 = Week 1. This means, Susan, that you could pick out Project Guide No. 3, for Week 12 of crochet info, and we would set up the file for Week 12 as cwcpg0x12.htm. cwcpg indicates that it's crochet as the medium for recuerdas. Ox means Volume x of whatver group you're preparing material for, and week 12 indicates the isssue you've chosen for the week you're meeting with them. Then I'll post the sample image for that project as the image of the week. Instructions and corresponding conversation info will be included. I think this will give us a separate set of projects for each group. One groups complete round of meetings for however long they choose to meet would give us one volume of that groups project guides, and one issue per week. Because no group will ever have a specific number of meetings required, the number of issues to complete a volume will always vary. But any group will be free to plan out their project guide before they meet, and we will always have a project list from which they can pull out guides for projects they may choose to do individuallyt. This isn't rocket science, but it sure would make a good word puzzle. Now all I have to do is set up the templates.I'm not even gonna try to get the project guide files up today. Hah! jeanne
- default.htm
Slowly cleaning up the template. But still don't have the mission link ready. I don't think I'll even put up Week 2 until tomorrow. jeanne
- siteadd.htm
Updating Dear Habermas siteadd.htm first today, because I neglected it yesterday. With any luck I'll get the templates finished, and all this file shuffling won't be so hard. Now, after about 4 hours of trying to map out templates, I realize it's going to take lots longer to map 'em out. At least we know now that siteadd.htm has to be for those adults who are responsible for sharing with the participants, new or continuing adults and students. I'll do a separate siteadd that won't have to have all this explanation. But every group will have to have someone who knows how this stuff works. Minimal. I know, I know. Once the book is finished it will make perfect sense. I wish the book were finished. jeanne

It's the field project for Los Angeles this Spring, to test the use of art to develop reasoned facts, arguments, and conclusions in the public sphere on conversations that concern us all. Because of the projects mission to educate the public in the public sphere, wherever people are willing to play with art as they talk, we'll teach them. The way taught at the Sorbonne in the early fifteenth century. The only requirement is that you continue to develop your art skills and your conversational skills on matters of importance. The teaching, as it was at the Sorbonne, is free and open to the public. I am emeritus faculty of CSUDH, with a lifetime California teaching credential in physics, math, and French, having taught everything from pre-school for the gifted, to art for the Frances Blend elementary school for the blind, in L.A, to. jeanne

Files updated, added, or changed for the separate material on the Cats who Crochet site. For now, I'm replicating the two records pages because I haven't yet decided whether we should use separate URLs or not. If we do, I'll need this separate record for Cats who Crochet. Dear Habermas is the site on which we put up teaching materials and information that involve all our public sphere activity groups, not just the crochet group. jeanne

- catsnchain005.gif
Cropped image of the chain and its attachment to the free form piece. The chains are hard to count here because the yarn I used is one that varies from thick to thin. Sorry. I was hunting for a color that matched, and wasn't thinking about your needing to count the chains. jeanne

Cats instruction image on the NY Times Sunday plastic cover. Blue
- catsnstrpl0002.jpg
Cats instruction image on the LA Times Sunday plastic cover and the Wall Street Journal Sunday plastic cover. Orange. The weekday covers are clear plastic. That could be fun, too, if you used colored yarn with it. jeanne
Started series of files for instructions for stuff done with plastic bags yarn. Realized ww'd probably have lots of these over time, and we'd want to put up images participants send us. So I added a couple of zeros to the file numbers and changed the images of NY Times, LA Times, and Wall Street Journal plastic covers to fit this newer system. Since we have a website on which to display participants' work, I think we should do so. Local communities can use the praise. These numbers let us go up to 9, 999. I sure hope we don't have any more images than that. jeanne
- catsnstrpl0003.jpg
Fabric image of black and white envelope-style purse with shoulder strap. Made of multi-colored plastic and fun yarn in black with white paper-like strips. I think this one is done in crochet. It would have been a mess to try knitting all those strips and that black fun fur. Whenever you have long pieces like that jutting from the yarn, they get caught up and pulled through the knit stitches. Then you have to work them free, if you'd like them to look like this fabric. This purse has a really neat fabric for lining.
I can't find any of my cameras. They're obviously packed away under something, and I don't have time to go looking. When I do, I'll take a photo of the purse so you can see it. You'll have to nag me. There's so much to do with re-rganizing these sites. jeanne
- catsnstrpl0004.jpg
Image of inside of purse, with lining. The little bits of color you see is the plastic crochet under all the furry stuff sticking out. You can see why you might want to knit that combination. Crocheting it is easier. (I actually don't have the lining stitched in yet. There really is a lot to do with these websites. By the time I find the cameras, I'll get the lining stitched in. Honest. jeanne

Relaunch of Dear Habermas to fit effectively into our new community development project. The Dear Habermas Home Page should be launched in a few days. jeanne

Hmmm. . .This one's gonna take a little while. Without thinking about the coordination between cats who crochet, I used currentissue.htm for the Cats who Crochet site. So now I'll have to figure out how to make them merge happily. May be we'll have to just get the project a separate website from the information on issues site. Ideas welcome. jeanne

Changed the background here to see if we can evoke another shape. This time I had in mind the putti (cherubs) on the ceilings of the Pippi Palace in Florence.jeanne
Now I can see an Eskimo, too. Bet I could do a background to evoke that image, too. jeanne
Think I screwed up something here. Since it's being restructured anyway, I guess that won't matter too much.
